About World Woods Golf Club - Pine Barrens (Brooksville, FL)
Intimidating. Enjoyable. These two words don't often go hand in hand, but they accurately describe the Pine Barrens course at World Woods. Ranked #26 on Golfweek's list of "America's Best Modern Courses for 2006," this Tom Fazio design has been receiving accolades since it opened in 1991. It's perennially ranked among the nation's top courses by Golf Digest and has been called "Florida's Pine Valley." The course features large fairways framed by expansive waste bunkers and towering pines (hence the comparisons to Pine Valley).

I've played Pine Valley, and this was not even close with respect to the shot values found at the "original". But Fazio managed to blend his overall architectural theme with the type of hazards found at Pine Valley, while not losing the playability which makes his designs so appealing. A fabulous course.

Extremly difficult course with high speed green and lot of contours. We are single handicap players, but not one of our group left the course with less than 39 putts per round. I would not recommend this course to double digit players. We loved the challange and would play the course anytime again. The best skill test we have tried in Tampa.
